KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 29): ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd today launched its second factory in Malaysia to tap into the increasing demand for energy efficient motor driven systems in South Asia and Oceania.

The new facility was built to manufacture ABB's next generation ACS880 drives for industrial sectors such as pulp and paper, metals, mining, cement, power, chemical, oil and gas as well as good and beverage.

"As the world's largest supplier of variable speed drives, the new factory will allow ABB to harness opportunities in one of the most promising growth regions," said ABB's head of discrete automation and automation division Pekka Titinen.

He added that the group's investment in the factory reflected the importance of Malaysia as a strategic base for ABB.

Zurich-based ABB is a multinational corporation which operates mainly in robotics and the power and automation technology areas.
