KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 5): A total of 388,897 or 94% of teachers nationwide have been fully vaccinated as of Oct 4, 2021, according to Deputy Education Minister I Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

He said the Ministry of Education (MoE) is working together with the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to ensure that the vaccination rate among teachers can be improved.

“Teachers as civil servants should adhere to the latest circular note by the public service department (JPA) which encourage civil servants to be vaccinated before Nov 1, 2021.

“To teachers who refuse to be vaccinated, they will be transferred elsewhere as their actions will cause the teaching and learning (PdP) process of students to be affected,” he said in parliament on Tuesday.

Earlier on Sept 26, Senior Education Minister Datuk Radzi Jidin said one of the solutions being mulled in the interest of students’ safety was to transfer teachers who refused to be vaccinated out.

He added this issue should not be allowed to prolong and transfers, including interstate, might be carried out to resolve it.

Meanwhile, a total of 20.72 million people or 88% of Malaysia’s adult population had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as of Monday (Oct 4).

Within the Klang Valley, 7.4 million persons or 87.9% of its total population had received at least one vaccine dose so far, including 6.89 million or 81.8% who had been fully vaccinated.
