KUALA LUMPUR (April 11): A total of 224 medical workers have tested positive for Covid-19, said Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
However, he reiterated that the investigations to date show that none of them contracted the virus at hospitals’ Covid-19 wards or intensive care units.
Of the total, 41 infections or 18% of the cases were contracted from patients, comprising 29 cases from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patients, nine cases from patients whose status could not be ascertained before treatment was given, while three cases were linked to testing and other activities in the field.
150 cases or 67% of the cases were due to community infections, which include infections from co-workers who were infected by their respective communities.
Noor Hisham told the media today that 33 cases, or 15%, are still under investigation.
The Ministry of Health today announced there were 184 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the country’s total number of positive cases to 4,530.
Meanwhile, there were 165 recoveries. The daily recoveries figure, however, was lower compared with 222 yesterday. The total number of cured cases climbed to 1,995, which is 44% of the total infections.
The death toll rose to 73 with three new deaths reported.
To date, Malaysia is the country with the highest number of cases in Asean, followed by the Philippines (4,428 cases) and Indonesia (3,842 cases).
