KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): About 30% of the Covid-19 clusters reported in the country since the start of the pandemic in January are linked to the workplace, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
“A total of 62 clusters (30%) are linked to the workplace. As of today, there were 37 active clusters including the two newly-discovered clusters today,” he said in a televised media briefing.
Dr Noor Hisham said the two clusters found in Sabah and Labuan have a total of 26 infections.
The Lintas cluster in Kota Kinabalu has six confirmed infections.
These cases were detected from screening at the workplace conducted yesterday. All six patients have been admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the city.
As for the Limbungan cluster in , the director-general said the index case tested positive for Covid-19 during a screening of close contacts of patients on Oct 15.
“In the cluster, 20 people have tested positive from 383 individuals who went for screening,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham noted a total of 230 Covid-19 clusters have been reported in the country so far.
Meanwhile, a total of 111 clusters have ceased, as no new Covid-19 cases were detected there for 28 days.
New Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dropped to 835 today from a record high of 1,240 yesterday, with 548 cases or 67% reported in Sabah and the Klang Valley.
The national Covid-19 tally now stands at 28,640, more than double the 11,224 cases as of Sept 30.
Two new deaths were reported today, bringing the Covid-19 death toll to 238.
