KUALA LUMPUR (June 12): The government has postponed the tabling of the 12th Malaysia Plan from the initially scheduled Aug 6 to a date that has yet to be fixed, the Dewan Rakyat speaker said today.

Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said he received a letter signed by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announcing a revision in the schedules of the second and third meetings of 14th Parliament’s third term, which will see, among others, a deferment in the tabling of Budget 2021 to Nov 6.

The revision was done in accordance with Rule 11(2) and 15(2) of the Dewan Rakyat council of assembly, he said.

“The decision was made by the government after taking into consideration the Covid-19 outbreak, which has impacted the country’s economy, and to allow the government to assess the situation further by engaging with all stakeholders,” he said in a statement.

The second meeting is scheduled to run for 25 days from July 13 to Aug 27, except on July 30, Aug 19 and Aug 20 for Aidiladha and Awal Muharam public holidays.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Ariff said the third meeting has been rescheduled to run for 27 days from Nov 2 to Dec 15. Under the revised schedule, the tabling of Budget 2021 will take place on Nov 6 instead of Oct 2.

“Dewan Rakyat secretary Tuan Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin will issue a notice for the meetings and the details of the revised schedules to all members of Parliament today,” the speaker said.
