KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): Hong Leong IB Research has maintained its “Overweight” rating on the construction sector and said it expects 2016 to be a record year for job flows, possibly surpassing the previous high of RM28 billion in 2012.

In a note today, the research house said 2016 marks the start of the 11MP, the final Malaysia Plan for the nation to achieve Vision 2020.

It said development expenditure of RM50 billionn (+6% y-o-y) is commendable given the strong jump last year (+21%).

HLIB Research said real construction growth of 10% in 2016 will continue to outperform overall GDP at 4.5%.       

“2016 to be a record year for job flows, possibly surpassing the previous high of RM28 billion in 2012.

“Expected mega contracts include the MRT2, LRT3, Pan Borneo H’way, SUKE, DASH and Southern Double Track.

“Stay Overweight. Top picks are IJM Corporation Bhd (large cap), Mitrajaya Holdings Bhd (small cap) and Sarawak Cable Bhd (Sarawak elections),” it said.
