KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 20): Malaysia has received 200,000 doses of the CanSino Covid-19 vaccine today, the first delivery out of 3.5 million doses ordered from CanSino Biologics.

The finished vaccine doses were flown in by MAS Kargo via flight MH361 from Beijing and arrived at KLIA at 7.50am this morning, said the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) in a statement.

Witnessing the arrival of the doses were Mosti chief secretary Datuk Siti Hamisah Tapsir and Ministry of Health chief secretary Datuk Mohd Shafiq Abdullah.

CanSino's and Johnson & Johnson's single-dose vaccines received conditional approval from the Drug Control Authority on June 15.

With single-dose vaccines, recipients would be considered fully vaccinated 28 days after their jabs.

“This supply will further enhance the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), especially in areas with low accessibility, helping Malaysia to achieve its herd immunity target as outlined by the National Recovery Plan according to the set timeline,” said Mosti.

Since Covid-19 vaccinations began in late February, about half of Malaysian adults have already received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine while about 36% are already fully immunised.
