KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 18): 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) today rubbished a Wikipedia entry and fake information circulating on social media claiming the country's strategic investment fund is involved in airlines operation.

1MDB said in a statement today that there was a fake Wikipedia entry and fake information circulating on social media regarding the set-up and operations of a so-called "1MDB Airlines Bhd".

"We confirmed that there is no such company owned or operated by 1MDB.

"1MDB has publicly confirmed since February 2015 that it will not enter into any new investments or new businesses and is focused solely on (the) implementation of its rationalisation plan," the country's strategic investment fund stressed.

1MDB also requests members of the public to ignore the fake information and to not be influenced by any third party claiming to act on behalf of 1MDB in relation to this matter.

A check on Wikipedia showed that an anonymous entry claimed 1MDB Airlines is a future Malaysian full-cost service airline that is owned by 1MDB.

The author wrote that 1MDB Airlines was established this year and plans to operate from its base in Kuala Lumpur International Airport starting Feb 1, 2016 to Paris, France.

"The airline hopes to be a thriving airline hoping not to make the same mistakes as Malaysia Airlines did in recent years," the post read.

Nevertheless, Wikipedia posted a note stating that the article is being considered for deletion in accordance with its deletion policy.

"This article may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion because article is fake and misrepresenting an actual company," the free encyclopaedia said its note.
