(Oct 26): Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has urged all parties to give space for the investigations into the state-owned investment vehicle 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion transferred into the personal accounts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to run its course instead of interfering.

He said this was to guarantee the credibility of the investigations into the debt-ridden company.

"It is still under investigations. The MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) is investigating it. So what the PM is asking for is time.

"We cannot say the issue has been resolved. If the government says it is resolved or if Umno said the same, there will be some doubts because we ourselves are saying there is no problem. So we have to wait," he said in a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Khairy added that the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee and MACC were the credible agencies to carry out the probe and announced the outcome as the investigations were being carried out by a third and impartial party.

"So we have to allow space for the probe to carry on."

Meanwhile, the Rembau MP said there would not be any hindrance in allowing representatives from debating issues relating to 1MDB or the RM2.6 billion "donation" money during the upcoming Umno General Assembly.

"In my 15 years as a representative, there was not a single instance in the general assembly that we have stopped any debate.

"So for me, we will respect and be ethical during the debates, but also, there was never any effort to stifle the voices of those who speak, from being heard by party leaders," he said. – The Malaysian Insider
