KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): State investment entity 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) today said the second round of civil suits against it by the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) do not contain any appendices with documentary proof.

The suits also do not contain any witness statements to support the allegations made by DoJ in the June 7 suit, said 1MDB in a statement today.

It was responding to the DoJ lawsuit dated June 7, which is part of an effort to seize about US$1 billion worth of assets linked to 1MDB.

In July last year, DoJ's lawsuits alleged that US$3.5 billion was misappropriated from 1MDB to purchase assets including properties and artwork, according to reports.

The latest suit states that about US$4.5 billion was allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB and has the initials MO1 peppered throughout the documents.

DoJ aims to seize US$1.7 billion in assets including movie rights, jewellery, a yacht, and a fitness centre chain, allegedly purchased using 1MDB funds.

While noting the contents of the lawsuit against certain assets, 1MDB said it is neither a party to the civil lawsuit nor has it been contacted by the DoJ in relation to this matter.

However, 1MDB reiterated that it would fully cooperate with any foreign lawful authority.

"As previously stated, 1MDB will fully cooperate with any foreign lawful authority, subject to international protocols governing such matters and the advice of the relevant domestic lawful authorities," it said.

1MDB's statement follows Attorney-General of Malaysia Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali's statement earlier today when he expressed frustration over DoJ's non-information to the Attorney-General's Chambers regarding the suit.

Mohamed Apandi said this was allegedly a repeat of an identical act when DoJ filed the first civil suit in July last year, and failed to alert his office.

He also expressed strong concerns at the insinuations, allegedly contained in the lawsuits, made against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak of criminal wrongdoing.
