KUALA LUMPUR: 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) reiterated that there has been no wrongdoing by the fund or any of its officials in response to a news report on the launch of an investigation by Swiss prosecutors relating to a Saudi Arabian oil company, and reportedly relating to Swiss citizens and the Swiss banking system, it said today.

“There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by 1MDB or any of its officials. So it is irresponsible and reprehensible for an act by Swiss investigators to be twisted and framed as an inquiry into 1MDB and its shareholder.

“We wish to state in the strongest possible terms that 1MDB is not the subject of any criminal investigation either in Malaysia or internationally. We have and remain ready to assist the investigation of any lawful authority, in line with international protocols. Until today, 1MDB has not received any such request,” it said.

It also asked all parties to refrain from politicising any alleged investigation by the Swiss authorities on non-Malaysian nationals, adding that they “desist from trying to create links to 1MDB for political gain” during this “sensitive general election period”.

It was responding to a report in the Financial Times today that Swiss prosecutors have launched a criminal probe against two officials of PetroSaudi for suspected offences including fraud, bribery and aggravated money laundering, that is part of a long-running wider inquiry into misappropriation of 1MDB funds.
