(July 29): Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who many believe was sacked from government for his vocal views on troubled 1Malaysia Development Fund (1MDB), today said he knew "a bit more" about the state investment vehicle than the average Malaysian.

He said cabinet members were given a fact sheet of the firm which had to date chalked up RM42 billion in debt, but it was not comprehensive enough.

"We got quite a simple fact sheet. It was not comprehensive enough. It has information but it was not enough because this issue needs more than a fact sheet.

"That is why I need more information from various quarters as well as feedback to help me understand it and try to help resolve it.

"What I know is from some sources and a few referral materials... what you know about 1MDB, I maybe know a bit more than that," he told a packed news conference at his residence today.

But Muhyiddin did not elaborate on what he knew more about 1MDB.

The former deputy prime minister had previously criticised 1MDB, which is the brainchild of prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Najib, who is the finance minister, is also the chairman of the troubled state investment vehicle's advisory board.

However at the Cheras Umno division meeting on Sunday night, Muhyiddin had upped his criticisms against 1MDB, calling for the auditor-general's interim report on 1MDB to be made public and saying that he had to read The Edge for information.

He had also said his former cabinet colleagues, Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, had issued statements to explain the 1MDB situation but these had done little to ease public scepticism on the matter.

"Who should tell you the truth? It is the prime minister. But he said wait for the PAC and audit report. So wait, wait and wait. I have yet to even read the (auditor-general's) interim report," he had said, adding that the best way to convince the public now was to make all reports on the matter public as this would help regain public trust.

Muhyiddin said today he had no regrets about what he said, as he was voicing out what he thought was true.

"I gave my views and although some may feel its sting, I still do it," he said, adding that he has a responsibility to the people, party and nation.

He expressed confidence that the 1MDB issue can be resolved due to the numerous investigations into the state investment firm.

Both Parliament's Public Accounts committee (PAC) and a task force are probing into 1MDB's operations as well as allegations of financial irregularities. – The Malaysian Insider
