KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 18): MCA’s sole Parliamentarian Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong claims the mid-term review of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) is largely a “rebranding exercise”.

Speaking to reporters after the review was presented in Parliament today, Wee said there wasn’t any major change to the original 11MP drafted by the Barisan Nasional (BN) Government.

“To me, the mid-term review is more like a rebranding exercise by labelling some of the initiatives by the previous Government with similar wordings.

“I was expecting to see some overhaul or revamp. They listed many objectives, but didn’t state how to achieve them,” he said.

Wee, who is MCA deputy president, said the mid-term review, presented by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was not detailed enough.

“There was a lot of rhetoric. They didn’t specify what they want to do and what exactly are the actions to be taken to implement their objectives.

“One example is building affordable housing. Under the original 11MP, the BN government had already targeted to build 500,000 units over the five-year period, so repackaging it into a target of 200,000 units in the remaining period of 11MP does not mean anything significant.

“I personally see it as a continuity of what the BN has done,” he added.
