PETALING JAYA: Former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu yesterday accused party members who are critical of DAP of merely putting on a show to impress delegates and win posts in PAS’ 61st muktamar (general assembly), which ended on Saturday.

He said upon winning the PAS elections, these members are now hastily mending ties with DAP just days after they approved a motion to end all cooperation with the party.

“Now I can see: the labelling, the accusations that people are tools or lackeys, Anwarinas, DAP agents, are just a ploy to get posts,” said Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, who lost in the polls after being accused of having cosy ties with DAP.

“Now that they have won their posts, they are trying to mend ties with DAP. Those who had helped to build Pakatan Rakyat from the beginning are chased out.

“Are positions all that they are after?” asked Mohamad, who announced on Saturday he would quit his posts in Penang’s DAP-led government out of respect for the Dewan Ulama’s motion.

Mohamad said it is normal for those who are contesting the party leadership to push new ideas and expose the weaknesses of the past tenure.

But in PAS, those who did not defend the ulama were thrown into one category and labelled “jebon”, anti-ulama, or accused of being more obedient to leaders from PKR or DAP.

He said he was often the main target as he had not defended PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang from DAP, or during the Selangor menteri besar crisis last year.

“The attacks between PAS and DAP leaders are out of control, especially the PAS leaders’ views that the party cut ties with DAP and go it alone,” he said. — The Malaysian Insider
