KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 25): UBB Amanah Bhd's chairman Tan Sri Dr Suleiman Mohamed has been made the independent, non-executive chairman of Yoong Onn Corp Bhd since June 1.

In a bourse filing, the bed and bath linen maker announced that the 76-year-old had been redesignated from the post of independent and non-executive director, which he was appointed to when he first joined the company's board in March.

According to Yoong Onn, Suleiman, a former member of Parliament who was elected for four consecutive terms between 1986 and 2004, also sits on the boards of Xin Hwa Holdings Bhd and UBB Amanah. In UBB Amanah, he sits as the cash trust's chairman.

Suleiman succeeds Datuk Kamaludin Yusof, who resigned from the chairman post back in end-May this year to comply with Main Market Listing Requirements, where all long-serving independent directors of more than 12 years must resign or be redesignated as a non-independent.

Shares in Yoong Onn closed three sen or 1.9% lower at RM1.55, giving the company a market capitlisation of RM248 million.
