KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 6): Next Monday, Sept 10, is a public holiday for all states, except Kedah, Kelantan, Johor and Terengganu, the Human Resources Ministry said today.

It is a replacement holiday for the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday which falls on the previous day (Sunday, Sept 9), which is already a holiday being the weekly rest day, except for the four states.

Under the Employment Act 1955, if a public holiday falls on a rest day, then the following working day will be substituted as a paid public holiday, the ministry said in a statement.

However, as Sunday is a working day for Kedah, Kelantan, Johor and Terengganu, these states are given the King’s birthday holiday on Sunday, Sept 9.

The ministry reminded employers in the private sector to abide by relevant laws relating to paid public holidays and to ensure relevant wages are paid to employees working on that day.

The king’s birthday is among 11 public holidays gazetted by the government.
