PUTRAJAYA (July 27): Former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisatiom (MEIO) director-general Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid will be lodging a police report over claims that she had sent a letter to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
In a statement released through her lawyer Datuk Shaharudin Ali today, Hasanah said she was advised by her lawyer to make a police report.
She said she will also hold a press conference to explain the real situation.
In the purported letter dated May 4 this year, addressed to CIA director Gina Haspel, the then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was described as a friend of the United States (US).
In the letter, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was described as “anti-West and an anti-Semite”.
In the letter, allegedly written just a week before the 14th General Election, the writer had congratulated the new CIA appointee and also appealed for the US to support Najib’s administration “even if BN won the election by a simple majority or just one seat.”
