KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): The Transport Ministry will study the technical aspect of AirAsia Group Bhd's proposal to return to Kota Kinabalu International Airport's Terminal 2. Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the ministry's decision on the matter cannot be based on sentimental reason only.
Loke said the technical consideration is a very important aspect to determine the possibility of AirAsia returning to Kota Kinabalu International Airport's
Terminal 2. He said the ministry's decision also depends on the Sabah state government's views.
"Pakatan Harapan's objective is to support the tourism industry in Sabah. However, with such specific proposal from AirAsia to return its operations to Terminal 2, we need to study the technical aspect (of the proposal), as it cannot be based on sentimental reason only," Loke said in Parliament today.
Loke was responding to Papar MP Ahmad Hassan's query on the matter. Loke said the ministry will not allow any airline to dominate or monopolise the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
"We look forward to healthy competition among the airlines and we want to ensure that the airport can accommodate the increased capacity. We need to plan early for Kota Kinabalu International Airport's capacity," Loke said.
