David Helbock Trio

Austrian pianist and composer David Helbock and his band performs in Kuala Lumpur this weekend. The artist won the 2011 Outstanding Artist Award in his home country, and was more recently awarded a state scholarship to study composition. Having played the piano since he was aged six, Helbock only continues to grow as a musician, touring the world and performing in over 20 countries. The show takes place at 10pm tonight and tomorrow night at No Black Tie on Jalan Mesui, off Jalan Nagarasi, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. Admission is priced at RM64 for adults, and RM54 for students. Saturday Night Vibes presents Dani

Local talent Dani has a knack for creating her own vintage covers of popular jazz and blues songs. Having first stepped into a career in music in 2015 at an open mic session, Dani has since grown as an artist, singing at various notable music destinations in the city. The singer also recently ventured into songwriting, and one can expect to be blessed with an original composition or two at her performances. An Evening with the KL Piano Trio and Tunku Sara Ahmad

The KL Piano Trio and Tunku Sara Ahmad come together to raise funds for Cancer Research Malaysia. The KL Piano Trio descended from the Penang Piano Trio of the 1970s, and like their predecessor, operates on the philosophy of goodwill. Expect to hear a variety of pieces, including classical, popular and Malaysian pieces. This is one of many concerts in support of the national cancer research foundation’s efforts towards a future without cancer. The concert takes place tomorrow at 5pm in the recital hall at Wisma Bentley Music, Jalan PJU 7/2 Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Admission is based on donation. The Sunday Show

The Sunday Show at The Bee gathers seven local acts to rock your weekend. The line-up includes Army of Three, Trophy Knives and A RON, bringing you everything from indie rock to emo, from punk rock to metal. Russell Peters’ Deported World Tour

Internationally acclaimed comedian Russell Peters graces Kuala Lumpur with his all new show, Deported. The show follows after his 2016 Netflix stand-up special Almost Famous, as well as his comedy drama The Indian Detective last year. On the tour with Peters is comedian Jake Johannsen, a favourite with talk show host David Letterman. Electric Butterflies by Kuah Jenhan

Local comedian Kuah Jenhan presents his latest show, Electric Butterflies. Kuah was nominated for Best Comedy at the 2016 Perth Fringe World with his show Like This Like Dad, and another show Perfect Stranger was rated 4 out of 5 stars by the Herald Sun. The comedian will be performing in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival later this year, and has thus called Electric Butterflies “a fundraising show for myself before leaving for Australia because Australia is really expensive”. Bring out your artistic talent at KongsiGongxi, a fundraising painting event. In celebration of nature, the event aims to promote sustainability by encouraging participants to bring unused objects — vases, shower curtains, rubber tyres, or anything else from around the house that can be painted over. What’s more, you will have the opportunity to work alongside veteran artist Yap Hong Ngee during the event. KongsiGongxi takes place tomorrow from 8.30pm to 5pm, with last three hours being a showcase and auction for the pieces created during the event. Onde Onde Open Mic: Still We Rise

Gerakbudaya celebrates International Women’s Day in advance with their monthly open-mic session. Onde Onde is a multi-genre open mic, featuring singers and poets from around the country.
