KUALA LUMPUR (May 6): Pengerang Power Sdn Bhd, which entered into a deal yesterday to supply electricity to Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), will obtain the supply from its co-generation plant within the Pengerang Integrated Complex in Johor.

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), which wholly owns Pengerang Power, said the co-generation plant is one of the six associated facilities being developed within the complex.

Apart from generating power, it would also produce steam for consumption with the facility.

"Inclusive of a back-up capacity to ensure reliability of supply, the co-generation plant will have a nominal capacity of 1,729MW.

"This plant will be one of the biggest co-generation power plants in the region, using Siemens AG's latest H-class gas turbine technology together with a unique dual steam turbine configuration to ensure highest efficiency," Petronas said in a statement.

Announcing the deal yesterday, Petronas said Pengerang Power would sell 400MW of generating capacity and electrical energy to TNB beginning from June 2017.

The 21-year contract features an additional 200MW supply from January 2019 onwards.

At 3.56pm today, TNB shares rose two sen or 0.14% to RM14.12 with 15.18 million shares changing hands for a market capitalisation of RM79.8 billion.
