KUALA LUMPUR (May 4): Scientex Bhd is to build 1,420 units of affordable properties in Pasir Gudang, Johor with a gross development value (GDV) of RM184 million.

In a statement May 2, the company said its unit Scientex Quatari Sdn Bhd would build the properties which are slated for completion in 2017.

Scientex said the development was in collaboration with the Johor state government.

It said the affordable properties were priced between RM80,000 to RM150,000 per unit.

It said applicants with monthly household income of RM5,000 and below are eligible to purchase homes priced at RM80,000 per unit.

Whereas applicants with monthly household income of RM8,000 and below were eligible to purchase homes priced at RM150,000 per unit, it added.

Scientex chairman Tan Sri Mohd Sheriff Mohd Kassim said the company had established a strong brand name in the affordable housing segment and 20-year track record in delivering homes in a timely manner, especially in Johor, where its property development team was primarily based. 

“Since 1995, we have delivered more than 9,000 units of affordable houses in Johor that are priced below RM200,000 per unit. Of this, we have built and delivered 7,600 units in Taman Scientex Pasir Gudang alone, which is estimated to have a population of 30,000-strong to date.

“We hope to collaborate on future projects with the State Government to provide more affordable housing to meet demand,” he said.
