(Sept 1): Give up on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak before we give up on you.

That was the ultimatum Sarawak civil society movement Sarawak4Sarawakians (S4S) gave Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem today.

S4S chief Peter John Jaban said instead of supporting Najib, who is currently facing questions over the RM2.6 billion channelled into his personal bank account, Adenan should live up to his stand on corruption and withdraw the support.

He reminded Adenan on the chief minister's stand on corruption which he started after taking over the administration from his predecessor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“S4S believes Adenan should not pledge his support to Najib when the latter could not produce any solid evidence to clear up his fraud accusation.

“If the chief minister wants the people of Sarawak to have confidence in his leadership and if he wants the support of S4S, then he should stand up and question the prime minister,” Peter John said.

Adenan's support for Najib, he said, had also created much dismay among Sarawakians.

He said if Adenan is adamant, Sarawakians would only “think our chief minister is just interested in looking after his own regime and deliberately covering up the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB)” financial mismanagement.

Peter John said S4S does not wish to see the highly popular Adenan reduced to being “another coward” under the thumbs of Putrajaya.

“Has he forgotten about the anti-corruption pledge he made with his fellow ministers not long ago?”

The political activist said the 1MDB saga and the RM2.6 billion “donation” have lowered Sarawakians’ perception of the integrity of the federal government.

“The corruption allegations have become everyone’s concern.

“Unfortunately Adenan had not shown much concern.” Peter John said.

Another leader, K C Tan, in expressing his disappointment over Adenan's support for Najib, said the chief minister “does not seem to understand the disgust of Sarawakians” towards Najib.

“How can he convince us to give him another five years in the coming election? If he wants another five years, he better listen to the people,” Tan said. – The Malaysian Insider
