KUCHING (Jan 11): Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has died in Kuching today at the age of 72.

Bernama reported that his niece confirmed his passing away.

It is understood that he died of a heart attack.

Malaysiakini reported that he was recently warded at the Sarawak General Hospital Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan.

In an interview last year, Adenan revealed that he almost died due to a heart ailment four years ago.

“Three years ago I was very sick. I was at the National Heart Institute (IJN in Kuala Lumpur) and in Singapore. And there was a time I thought I was going. I called all my relatives, my children and grandchildren,” he said in an interview with Bernama before the Sarawak state election last year.

Adenan had taken over as Sarawak Chief Minister from Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, in February 2014. He later led Barisan Nasional to a stunning victory in the Sarawak State election by winning 72 seats.
