KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): SapuraKencana Petroleum Bhd may be seeing its fabrication yard utilisation rate drop up to 30% next year, according to its president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin.

Shahril told reporters during a press conference after the group's annual general meeting that currently its fabrication yard in Lumut was running at a utilisation rate of 80%.

"By next year our utilisation rate will decrease to 25% to 30%," said Shahril citing reasons that the group will be seeing several fabricated structures sailing away from now until September.

Shahril noted that there are still jobs for grabs for the company, especially in countries such as India which has not dropped its capital expenditures like many other countries.

"Year to date we have secured over RM1 billion worth of jobs. We need another RM5 billion till year end to replenish our order book," he added noting that the group needs to maintain RM6 billion worth of jobs a year to maintain its performance.
