(Dec 7): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed that a team of its officers has interviewed the donor of the RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal accounts, the New Straits Times reported.

MACC investigations division director Datuk Azam Baki was quoted as saying that the meeting with the donor was held recently in the Middle East.

He, however, did not reveal further details on the person's identity, saying the probe was still ongoing.

"Investigations into the case are still ongoing. Once we have completed our investigation, we will hand over the findings to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, who will decide on the next course of action.

"I would like to explain that MACC will update the public on the case from time to time as promised.

"However, we cannot simply disclose results of the investigation," he was quoted as saying in the report.

Azam also said the leakage of information on social media regarding his officers going to the Middle East would be investigated.

Najib has been repeatedly criticised over the donation, a large portion of which was put in his accounts shortly before the general election held in May 2013.

Last week, the prime minister was supposed to have answered questions about the money in the Dewan Rakyat but did not turn up. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi spoke on his behalf instead.

Zahid told the Dewan Rakyat last week that the identity of the donor had been identified and confirmed that the money did not come from state-owned investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

It was reported on Sunday that MACC recorded Najib's statement over issues concerning a former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International and the RM2.6 billion donation.

MACC had reportedly also recorded the statements of Low Taek Jho and SRC International director Datuk Suboh Md Yassin earlier. – The Malaysian Insider
