KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 29): The ringgit may end the year at as low as 4.60 against the US dollar as the dollar is expected to keep strengthening, said Forex Time vice president of corporate development and market research, Jameel Ahmad.

He shared the prediction during a media session here today.

However, he called on Malaysians and investors not to be "intimidated" by the ringgit's slide as it isn't the only currency that has been weakening after Donald Trump won the US presidential election.

"Don't be intimidated by the weakening of the Malaysian ringgit because it's a global trend," said Jameel, adding that outlook for the ringgit will be clearer after the inauguration of Trump on Jan 20.

Meanwhile, Jameel said the ringgit's performance should be measured not just against the US dollar, but against a basket of other currencies such as the British pound, Euro and others.

He also noted that the Malaysian economy has been performing reasonably well despite the tough external environment, with gross domestic product growth growing at about 4%, which is still significantly stronger than those in the developed world.

Jameel added that the emerging markets is on a global slow trend and investors should accept this as the new norm for now.
