KUALA LUMPUR (May 22): The Corporate Development Centre (CDC), set up by Khazanah Nasional Bhd to support exiting Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS) employees with their career transition beyond MAS, will open on June 1.

In a statement today, CDC said it will offer free outplacement and training services for exiting MAS employees to help them make the most of their skills and talents, and plan for the future.

However, the centre does not guarantee that exiting MAS staff will secure a job at the end of their training.

“We are committed to providing as much support as possible to help exiting employees transition from a career in MAS to mapping new career steps. We encourage them to take advantage of CDC’s services which are dedicated to creating opportunities for them moving forward," said MAS chief executive officer (CEO) and CEO-designate of the new airline Malaysia Airlines Bhd, Christoph Mueller, in the statement.

CDC’s main training facility is currently located at MAS Academy in Kelana Jaya, Selangor.

CDC’s services are also available at the Penang Skills Development Centre in Penang, the Sarawak Skills Development Centre in Kuching, and the Sabah Skills and Technology Centre in Kota Kinabalu.

CDC said other facilities will be established at other key locations throughout the country on an as-needed basis.

Set up by Khazanah as part of its 12-point recovery plan for MAS, former Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd managing director Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid has been roped in as chairman of CDC while former Penang Skills Development Corp CEO Datuk Boonler Somchit is a non-executive director and advisor to the centre.

"CDC has 60 trainers and counsellors nationwide, and that number continues to grow,"said CDC.

“Our team is dedicated to helping you make the most of your talents to achieve success in your career transition. We provide outplacement services to help you find a job and holistic training in essential skills and knowledge, as part of any programmes, courses or classes delivered by CDC," said CDC CEO Shahryn Azmi said.

"All of our services are free and we want you to come to any of our facilities and speak to our team. This is a unique opportunity to open up avenues to your future that you might not have considered," he added.

For individuals seeking to upskill, the centre currently offers over 400 programmes, courses or classes that are relevant to the market across many industries, with more to come. They include business, communications, entrepreneurship, engineering, marketing and information technology. Training modules include providing essential skills and knowledge such as business plan writing, financial management, computer literacy, communications skills, CV Writing and personal grooming.
