KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 9): Petronas Gas Bhd has appointed Datuk Anuar Taib as the group’s chairman following the resignation of Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas.

Anuar is currently the CEO and executive vice president of the upstream and liquid natural gas (LNG) segment at Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas).

“Shamsul, 64, has expressed his intention to resign due to time constraint as he currently sits on the boards of various Malaysian and overseas companies,” Petronas Gas said in a filing with the bourse today.

Shamsul is currently the non-independent chairman of MMC Corp Bhd and NCB Holdings BHd. He is also a senior independent non-executive director at Enra Group Bhd.

Meanwhile, Datuk N Sadasivan also expressed his intention to resign as non-independent and non-executive director of Petronas Gas while Datuk Ab. Halim Mohyiddin was appointed to the nomination committee.

The board changes will come into effect on Jan 1, Petronas Gas said in its announcement.

Shares in Petronas Gas rose 36 sen or 1.69% to RM21.64 today, giving the firm a market capitalisation of RM42.27 billion.
