KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 12): The Securities Commission (SC) expects Malaysian companies to raise as much as RM105 billion in 2017, from some RM100 billion a year earlier, mainly on bond issuance and initial public offerings (IPO).

SC chairman Tan Sri Ranjit Ajit Singh said the regulator expects an estimated RM90 billion to RM105 billion to be raised in 2017.

“For this year, we see approximately RM105 billion being raised from the primary and secondary markets. A substantial portion is expected to be raised from the bond market this year, at about RM85 billion.

“We see the global IPO markets picking up, and the (local) IPO market is also picking up. Our 2017 (Malaysian IPO) estimate is around RM7 billion. We also anticipate a certain amount from the secondary markets,” he told reporters here today, during the SC's International Fund Forum 2017.

The forum is in conjunction with the launch of Malaysia’s Islamic Fund and Wealth Management Blueprint.
