KUALA LUMPUR (May 3): Malaysia Airlines Bhd chief operating officer Peter Bellew said the management team would be able to fix the company with the current strategy.

Bellew said Malaysia Airlines needs to grow sales and that the company was improving quickly.

"We need to improve our sales, that is part of what we are doing right now, and things are improving quite rapidly. A lot of operational things are coming together quite well, on-time performance, and we are getting much better at delivering bags on time.

"Our aircrafts are going through massive process of refurbishment, we are also doing a complete overhaul of the (Airbus) A330, that's what we are doing right now," he said at a media briefing organised by French-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR here today.

Bellew, who has been with Malaysia Airlines for eight months, further expressed his optimism toward the privatised company's rejuvenation.

He said: "Apart from fixing it, then we have to grow after that, and move forward, and this is a great opportunity to do that."

"I am here eight months, and I have never a moment of doubt about this," he said.

The Malaysian Government via investment arm Khazanah Nasional Bhd owns and presently spearheads Malaysia Airlines' corporate revamp.
