KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 23): The legal dispute between Tan Sri Tajudin Ramli and his brother Datuk Bistamam Ramli with Axiata Group Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary Technology Resources Industries Bhd (TRI), has come to an end.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Axiata said the Federal Court had on Aug 22, dismissed the leave application made by Tajudin who is the former chairman of Malaysian Airline System Bhd, and Bistamam, to appeal against the decision made by the Court of Appeal on Jan 18.

The Federal Court also ordered costs of RM20,000 to be paid by the Tajudin and Bistamam to TRI.

“With the dismissal, Tajudin and Bistamam have exhausted all avenues of appeal and the same are now concluded,” read Axiata’s announcement.

To recap, The Court of Appeal had on Jan 18 dismissed the appeal made by Tajudin and Bistamam against a Kuala Lumpur High Court judgement dated March 20, which was in favour of TRI, with cost of RM30,000 to be paid by the brothers.

The duo had then filed an application for leave to appeal to the Federal Court against the decision.

The High Court on March 20, 2013, decided — after a full trial against Tajudin, Bistamam and Datuk Lim Kheng Yew in a suit brought by TRI to reclaim RM37.84 million in compensation payments — Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions and incentive payments paid to the trio, when they were directors of the company.

Axiata announced on March 6, 2015 that it had reached a settlement with Lim, but did not disclose details of the settlement.
