KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 16): Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd and Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) today signed the agreements for Collection, Transportation, Treatment and Disposal (CTTD) of Scheduled Waste Services for the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), in Johor.

According to a statement today, the 5+5-year CCTD was signed between Kualiti Alam and PETRONAS’ subsidiaries, PRPC Refinery & Cracker Sdn Bhd (PRPC RC), PRPC Polymers Sdn Bhd (PRPC Polymers) and PRPC Utilities & Facilities Sdn Bhd (PRPC UF).

The CCTD contracts to Kualiti Alam marks a new landmark in Hazardous Waste Management in Malaysia, complementing PETRONAS’ PIC development to add value and capitalise on the growing need for premium differentiated petrochemical and commodity products in Asia, establishing new engines of growth and pushing the nation into a new frontier of technology and economic development under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), it said.

“These contracts signify PETRONAS’ seriousness to provide the general public as well as surroundings of the PIC development with its care for the environment by early arrangement for the treatment and disposal of scheduled wastes that will comply with Malaysian Law and international industry practices,” it said, adding that the contract also provided opportunities for local participation in the PIC development.

In 2014, Khazanah Nasional Bhd acquired 100% of UEM Environment Sdn Bhd, the environmental holding company from the UEM Group Bhd. The holding company has since been re-branded as Cenviro Group.

In line with this, Khazanah has fully supported Cenviro’s satellite facilities expansion plans via newly incorporated 100%-subsidiary, Cenviro Johor Sdn Bhd.

Earlier last year, Cenviro Johor signed a long-term lease agreement with Perbadanan Islam Johor, whose land is located within 14km from PIC.

Cenviro Johor will house the new state-of-the-art facilities that will provide Scheduled Waste management services to PIC and other parts of Johor, it said.

Its close proximity to the waste generators will enable services to be undertaken in a more efficient and effective manner, and at a significantly lower risk, it added.

"Cenviro Johor has started its initial investment on the leased land and has already designed an incinerator facility that will meet the technical requirements of our waste generators, and is targeted to be commissioned by January 2019," it said.

Measuring about 40 acres, the land will enable Cenviro Johor to provide other facilities such as recycling and recovery services related to wastes from the various downstream activities of the oil and gas industry, it said.

Cenviro Group expects to invest more than RM150 million in the next few years in line with PIC’s future development.

Kualiti Alam, a Cenviro company which is the leader in integrated environmental solutions, owns and operates Malaysia’s first integrated waste management centre located in Negeri Sembilan since 1998.
