Notable filings

ACCORDING to filings with Bursa Malaysia, between Jan 27 and Feb 3, notable changes in shareholding included the disposal of 30 million Sime Darby Bhd shares by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB). The block of shares sold represented 7.8% of PNB’s shareholding in Sime ­Darby. PNB is left with 383.25 million shares, or a 5.64% direct stake.

Through AmanahRaya Trustees Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PNB, another 10.811 million shares were sold.

AmanahRaya Trustees retains a 40.47% stake in Sime Darby, whose share price closed at RM8.98 last Wednesday.

During the week, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has also been a net seller of banking stocks.

The pension fund disposed of 1.56 million shares in Affin Holdings Bhd and another 3.58 million shares in Alliance Financial Group Bhd. The EPF also sold 8.14 million AMMB Bhd shares and 1.66 million BIMB Holdings Bhd shares.

The largest disposal was in CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, with 24.32 ­million shares sold. The EPF also disposed of 9.8 million Malayan Banking Bhd shares. The only bank EPF appeared not to sell its stake in was Public Bank Bhd, where it accumulated a net 4.48 million additional shares in the same period.

Elsewhere, the EPF picked up 14.45 million Tenaga Nasional Bhd shares. It comes at a time when TNB’s shares have been falling, down 8.77% from RM14.67 in August last year, closing at RM13.46 last Wednesday.

AmanahRaya Trustees also accumulated 12 million TNB shares in the same period.

Another notable filing saw ­Datuk Leo Suresh Ariyanayakam pick up 1.5 million additional shares in Scicom (MSC) Bhd for RM2.15 apiece, giving him a 24.7% stake in the company. Scicom’s share price closed at RM2.20 last Wednesday.

Tiger Synergy Bhd chairman ­Datuk Tan Wei Lian sold 13.17 million shares during the period. On Feb 6, he disposed of another 15 million shares to retain a 21.9% stake in the company.

Meda Inc Bhd saw Datuk Tiong Kwing Hee dispose of 2.08 million shares. He retains 84.08 million shares, or a 17.41% stake, in the company as at Feb 3.

Metronic Global Bhd saw executive director Tan Kian Hong acquire 11.02 million shares on the open market at 8.5 sen apiece, giving him a 9.5% stake in the company.

 

Notable movements

Opcom Holdings Bhd’s substantial shareholder Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir sold 10 million shares in the company to Rezeki Tegas Sdn Bhd, controlled by Ailida Baharum, through an off-market trade on Jan 26. The shares were transacted at 60 sen apiece. The company produces fibre-optic cables.

Mukhriz retains a 22.88% stake in the company, while Ailida has 19.41%.

Since the beginning of the year, Opcom’s share price has gained 4.17% to close at 62.5 sen last Wednesday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM100.78 million and valuation of 14.2 times earnings.

Another notable mover was Berjaya Food Bhd (BFood), which saw its share price rally 16.88% to RM1.80 earlier this month. On Feb 2, filings with Bursa showed that UBS AG London sold seven million shares in BFood, ceasing to be a substantial shareholder.

BFood’s share price dropped to RM1.75 last Wednesday.

Econpile Holdings Bhd saw group CEO Pang Sar sell 7.5 million shares at RM1.92 apiece via a direct business transaction on Jan 27. Pang is left with 149.3 million shares, or 27.91% equity interest.

Econpile executive director The Cheng Eng also disposed of 10.7 million shares at RM1.90 each to the EPF on Feb 7.

Econpile’s share price has more than doubled over the past one year to close at RM2.01 last Wednesday.
