KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 24): Shares of Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd advanced actively in the morning session today, rising to as much as 30 sen before paring gains at 28.5 sen, up 11.76% from its previous closing price as at noon break.

It was the second most actively traded counter with almost 59 million shares done.

On Oct 19, Hibiscus announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary SEA Hibiscus Sdn Bhd will buy Shell's 50% interest and operatorship in the 2011 North Sabah Enhanced Oil Recovery production sharing contract (PSC) for US$25 million (RM104.5 million).

The buy, expected to be completed in 2017, is anticipated to contribute positively to its future earnings.

The upstream oil and gas player has seen its share price climb this month after the price of Brent crude oil rose amid talk of a possible production cut by OPEC.

However, crude oil was down 0.3% to US$51.61 per barrel today after Iran refused to agree to cuts in output.
