KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 8): Malaysia's graphene adoption and commercialisation are expected to generate RM9 billion worth of revenue and contribute RM20 billion to the nation's gross national income by 2020 as the substance is applicable in various industries.

Science Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Madius Tangau said graphene is becoming a potential key material for various industries such as the automative, electronic and medical sectors under the country's National Graphene Action Plan 2020.

As such, Madius said today graphene use is also expected to create 9,000 new jobs in the country by 2020.

"Graphene, as I see it, can re-energise Malaysia's economy to become more competitive in the sense that economic growth is sustained and the nation can now create and maintain an environment for wealth creation," he said at the Graphene Malaysia 2016 event today.
