KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 20): George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd has bagged a RM364.9 million contract from the Public Works Department (JKR) to build a 220-bed Endocrine Hospital in Precinct 7, Putrajaya, Selangor.

It is the fourth hospital project that the group is building on a turnkey basis for the Health Ministry.

"This contract will bring our total order book to over RM6.2 billion, an all-time high for the group," George Kent chairman Tan Sri Tan Kay Hock said in a statement today.

“We strive to deliver this project on time and within budget,” he added.

Sitting on two acres, the scope of works include construction of the hospital extension complex with a link bridge to the existing main building block of Hospital Putrajaya, as well as a multi-storey parking block.

"The contract will take a period of 36 months and is scheduled to be completed by January 2020. This contract will add to the current order book of specialist projects and is in line with the group’s strategy to actively bid for up-coming engineering construction projects," said George Kent.

"The contract is not expected to have a significant effect on the earnings of George Kent Group for the current financial year ending Jan 31, 2017, but is expected to contribute positively to the group’s future earnings over the duration of the contract," it added.

George Kent had completed the construction of Kuala Lipis Hospital Phase 1 in 2012 and is now undertaking the construction of Kuala Lipis Hospital Phase 2, and Tanjung Karang Hospital.

"These will put us in a very good position for the execution of this and future projects. George Kent is constantly growing and committed to improve on our past successes,” said Tan.

George Kent shares closed unchanged at RM3.06 today, valuing it at RM1.15 billion.
