LONDON: Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) took home two awards at the 7th Middle East Business Leaders Awards 2016 (Mebla) last Friday.

MRCB was awarded the Best Urban Property Developer and KL Sentral, its flagship development, won the Best Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) award.

Mebla is organised by the American Leadership Development Association and The Leaders International magazine with full endorsement from the Federation of Gulf Cooperation Council Chambers. The award ceremony was held in London last Friday.

MRCB’s group managing director Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din was named Masterclass Global CEO of the Year in 2015.

“I believe the awards are well deserved. In the past few years, we have done a lot to push MRCB forward and the awards are a testament to what we have achieved,” said MRCB chief operating officer  Kwan Joon Hoe.

MRCB independent director, Jamaludin Zakaria, said, “We are honoured and grateful to have won these awards. Our victory is a testament to MRCB’s ability in developing TODs. As a pioneer in TODs, MRCB has turned KL Sentral into a world-class development that has won several prominent local and international awards.”

According to The Leaders International group chief executive officer (CEO) Shahul Hameed Shaik Dawood companies had to be nominated to be considered and there were a total of 123 nominations from around the world vying for 31 awards.

“We are committed to delivering urban developments that transform communities and these awards provide us with an added impetus to continue setting the standard in the field of property development and construction,” said Jamaludin.

KL Sentral comprises developments such as Menara Shell, Ascott Sentral and Nu Sentral Mall among others. At its heart is Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur, which is used by more than 180,000 people everyday.

Among the named guests who attended the ceremony were members of the UK parliament Rosena Allin-Khan and Stephen Timms, and Datuk Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi, high commissioner of Malaysia to the UK and Northern Ireland.
