(Oct 8): While keeping Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in office may increase the opposition’s chances of winning the next general election, it will also harm the country more, Amanah central committee member Khalid Samad said yesterday.

He said Najib’s track record was harming the economy and Umno’s tactic of pitting races against each other could hurt national harmony.

“I don’t agree with the approach of keeping this PM who will slowly make things worse for us just so that we will win the next elections,” he said.

“The way they are using racial politics, we might be fighting among races by the time the next elections come.

“The reserves might only be at half and the national debt might be at double the level by then.

“I don’t think we should let him stay for even a day more,” he said during the question and answer sessions at an Amanah fundraiser at the Thean Hou temple in Kuala Lumpur last night.

PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli urged the public to give Pakatan Harapan more time to move forward together.

He said Pakatan Harapan leaders have learned from past lessons where they issued contradictory statements on the same issue.

“If I am a member of the public, I will say all of them are clowns. But in reality, all of them are saying the same thing – Najib is bad,” he said.

“I hope all of you give us time. I had never shied away from controversy but I believe Pakatan Harapan remains our future.” – The Malaysian Insider
