Independent communications and digital media solutions specialist Carat Media Malaysia has appointed Fan Chen Yip as its new general manager. Fan was previously Carat’s group account director.

In his new role, Fan will be supporting Roy Tan, Carat Malaysia’s managing director, in managing the overall business as well as the day-to-day operations of the agency. Fan will be focusing on new businesses and enhancing collaboration with the Carat group of companies.

“I am very excited. These are truly exciting and challenging times to be in our business or any other business for that matter, and I am looking forward to playing a greater role in it,” Fan told The Edge Financial Daily yesterday in an email interview.

“One of my key roles will be to drive our integrated expertise by working closer with key personnel of Aegis group’s different companies. New business opportunities will always be a priority for Carat. We had a very good year in terms of acquiring new accounts last year and we are planning to continue that this year.

“It is the work we do for our existing clients that is one of our best strategies in acquiring new businesses. We will continue to invest in the work for existing clients and those client relationships,” Fan added.

Consistent with that strategy, Fan indicated that he would continue managing key Carat accounts such as Nokia and BMW in his new role.

Fan’s team was recently evaluated as one of the best performing amongst Nokia teams in the Asia-Pacific, said Tan who credited Fan for a new string of business wins and outstanding organic growth.

“Fan’s highlights in Carat include winning in almost all the annual Media Specialists Association awards since joining Carat,” he added.

Fan joined Carat as group account director in 2006. He previously held positions as planning director, head of buying and business director at Zenith and Universal McCann.
