KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 13): Astro Radio has kept its pole position as the country’s most popular radio network in the latest GfK Radio Audience Measurement Wave 2 2016 survey released today.

According to the survey findings, 97% of Malaysians above 10 years old listen to radio, out of which 76% or 15.1 million tune in to Astro Radio stations weekly.

In a statement today, Astro Radio said its stations ranked No. 1 across all languages, alongside ERA fm, hitz fm, MY FM and THR Raaga. THR Gegar also upheld its leading position in the East Coast.

"ERA fm (recorded) 5.8 million listeners, followed by Sinar FM, with 4.7 million listeners," it added.

“Radio continues to thrive, engage and see growth in its reach. Our Malay stations combined, reached 74.2% listeners; English stations with 85.5% listeners; Chinese stations with 63.2% listeners; and Tamil station with 87.3% listeners," Astro Radio chief executive officer Jake Abdullah said.

THR Raaga also recorded the highest time spent listening (TSL) among all radio stations in the country, with 11 hours and 38 minutes, he added.

GfK was commissioned as the official research partner for 20 local participating radio stations. Some key elements within the study were mobile data capture, online recruitment of participants and online data capture.
