KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 9): AirAsia Bhd today launched the AirAsia-Bukit Bintang monorail station under Prasarana Malaysia Bhd's Station Naming Rights programme, which offers corporations to bid for the right to refurbish a station.

AirAsia chief executive officer Aireen Omar said the station features visuals of AirAsia and content where commuters will be able to engage with and stand a chance to win flights.

"This station is a gateway to KL city centre and a place to meet. We have designed the interior for commuters to enjoy the overall experience of using it," she said during the launching.

The station also features a new sales centre allowing customers to make flight bookings, flight changes, add-on meals, baggage and seat selection.

AirAsia declined to comment on the amount invested in the station.

Asked if the airline will be partnering with Prasarana to transform other stations, Aireen said it will only be Bukit Bintang for now.

"Currently we're only looking at Bukit Bintang for the time being, and we'll see how this goes. If we see that there is a fantastic response, then we will look at other products that Prasarana may be able to offer," she said.

On the efforts to make Langkawi an international hub, Aireen said AirAsia is working closely with the government.

"This is something that we are working closely with the government in trying to see how we can build Langkawi as an international hub in this region. We'll see that happening sometime towards the end of this year.

"We have some exciting destinations that we shall announce very soon, sometime this month," she said.
