KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 7): Wah Seong Corp Bhd bagged an estimated EUR600 million (RM2.73 billion) contract, involving pipe coating services, for the approximately 1,200 km Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

Nord Stream 2 is a proposed gas pipeline via the Baltic Sea.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, Wah Seong said its 100%-owned unit, Wasco Coatings Europe B.V., had inked the contract with Nord Stream 2 AG yesterday (Sept 6).

"The contract is for the provision of pipe coating services, which is the core business of the WSC (Wah Seong) group and the risks are the normal operational risks associated with the provision of pipe coating services.

"The contract is expected to contribute positively to the earnings of WSC group over the contract period. The contract will be project-specific and is not renewable," Wah Seong said.

Trading in Wah Seong shares was halted from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. today, in conjunction with the announcement.

When trading resumed, the stock rose as much as five sen or 6% to 91 sen.

At 10:44 a.m., Wah Seong shares pared gains at 89 sen, for a market capitalisation of RM664.61 million. The stock saw some two milion shares exchanging hands.
