KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 28): The FBM KLCI is expected to trend sideways today and consolidate, and likely hover just below the 1,700-point level.

The local market my receive a much-needed boost from the announcement yesterday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that Saudi Arabia's state oil company Saudi Aramco will invest US$7 billion into the US$27 billion Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Johor.

Details of the investment are expected to be announced today.

Wall Street rose slightly on Monday and U.S. Treasury yields were higher as investors held their breath a day ahead of a key speech by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Reuters.

Oil futures' gains were capped by rising U.S. production even as a global supply glut appeared to ease, while the S&P 500's energy sector saw the biggest percentage increase among benchmark index sectors, it said.

Based on corporate announcements and newsflow yesterday, stocks in focus today may include: Sime Darby Bhd, Sunway Bhd, Destini Bhd, Titijaya Land Bhd, Aeon Co (M) Bhd, UMW Holdings Bhd, Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd, 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd, Press Metal Bhd, Media Chinese Int'l Ltd, Lay Hong Bhd and Kerjaya Prospek Group Bhd.
