Red Rising Trilogy: Pierce Brown

When author Pierce Brown burst into the literary scene in 2014 with Red Rising, critics immediately praised Brown’s writing style and the dystopian future world that he created for young adults. It revolves around Darrow, the novel’s hero and protagonist, who is part of a human civilisation hundreds of years in the future, whom have succeeded in colonising the solar system. Belonging to the “Red” caste, Darrow is the lowest-ranked in human society, forced to labour and toil in the underground darkness mining helium3, which they have been told is instrumental in enabling humans to colonise Mars. Unbeknown to Darrow, however, is the fact that the surface of Mars has long been colonised by humans of other castes, governed by the “Golds”, who sit right at the top of this pyramid. Red Rising’s sequel, Golden Sun was released in January 2015, and the final instalment of the series, entitled Morning Star is slated to be released sometime this month. The Red Rising trilogy is available at major bookstores nationwide and can be purchased online at www.mph.com.my at RM37.90 each.

The Big Short follows three groups of bankers who foresaw the housing market crash in the United States in 2007, and subsequently made themselves millions off it. The Big Short is now playing in all major theatres, for movie listings visit www.tgv.com.my or www.gsc.com.my.
