The Magic of Yue & Huangmei Operas

Learn more about the Huangmei and Yue opera styles with this performance. Theatre Lounge Café will be hosting a “lecture performance”, led by opera artiste Zhou Yan. Huangmei is a style popularised in Malaysia in the 1960s due to its use in period movies such as The Kingdom and the Beauty and The Love Eterne. The Yue style, which adopts a more feminine approach to singing and staging, is more traditional. The performance will be on tomorrow and Sunday at 9pm. Tickets are priced at RM65 per person. Elvira Arul — Gypsy Jazz

Known for her powerhouse vocals, Elvira Arul has been making waves in the live music circuit and beyond. Catch her once more at Bobo as she teams up with “duelling” guitarists Wan Gigi and Az Samad to present their version of gypsy jazz. The performance will be on tonight and tomorrow at 9.30pm. Watch the expanded organ quartet this weekend at Alexis Bistro. The quartet features popular jazz pianist John Dip Silas, guitarist Hor Chee Seng, Icco Elnoel on bass, Terrence Ling on drums, Hiroyuki Yagi on soprano saxophone and Scottish tenor saxophonist Scott Murphy. The band will be performing a mixture of original compositions and arrangements seeking to present what its name suggests. The performance will be on tonight and tomorrow at 10pm. Let’s Dance! 2

This dance performance features 200 students from 12 primary and secondary schools in the Klang Valley who will perform in this second edition of a programme by the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Kwang Tung Association Youth Section. Aimed at nurturing artistic talent from a young age, the programme presents an opportunity for the children to perform in a professional theatre setting. There will be guest performances by the Temple of Fine Arts and the acclaimed Kwang Tung Dance Company. Tickets are priced at RM30. The performance will be on tomorrow and Sunday at 8pm and 5pm. This weekly stand-up comedy show presents Ben Quinlan this week. Quinlan is a regular performer at the TakeOut Comedy Club in Soho and has performed with international comedians on their Hong Kong and Macau tours. He previously hosted 2015 Magner’s International Comedy Festival and was one of the six international headline acts at the 9th Annual Hong Kong International Comedy Festival.
