KUALA LUMPUR: Negara-Ku steering committee chairman Zaid Kamaruddin met the Registrar of Societies (RoS) yesterday to give a statement on the activities of the people’s movement, over claims that the movement was not a registered entity.

Zaid, who was accompanied by Negara-Ku patron Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, arrived at the RoS at 10.50am, said he would leave it to the RoS to decide if Negara-Ku had breached any law.

Zaid when met after his meeting with the RoS said he had informed the RoS that Negara-Ku was a movement and not a society.

Asked if the name Negara-Ku had created controversy, Zaid said though the name of the movement is similar to the National anthem, Negaraku, it was not meant to confuse or create any controversy.

Negara-Ku is a people’s movement that is a coalition of more than 80 non-governmental organisations striving for justice, equality and peace among Malaysians.

It was founded by national laureate A Samad Said, former Bar Council president Ambiga and Zaid. — Bernama
