KOTA KINABALU (Oct 21): Parti Bersatu Sabah's (PBS) women's wing (Wanita PBS) today called on the government to provide more leadership opportunities for women at the grassroots level, specifically at district level.

Wanita PBS head Senator Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman said the step would ensure the national target of having 30 per cent women in decision making positions would be achieved.

"Wanita PBS hopes the government will provide opportunities for women to hold posts like district officers, judicial officers for native customary laws, village heads and heads of village development and security committees (JKKKs)," she said in her address at PBS' 28th annual general meeting here today.

She also urged women to rise to the challenge to take up leadership roles.

Meanwhile, PBS Youth chief Datuk Jahid Jahim, in his address, said the PBS Youth leadership was committed to transforming the wing in preparing for the 14th general election.

He said PBS's losing a few seats in the 13th General Election (GE13) in May had "served as a wake up call" for the wing to redouble its efforts to produce a better result in GE14.
