KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 27): Cardiff City Football Club owner Tan Sri Vincent Tan has given the green light for manager Neil Warnock to spend "reasonable amount" to introduce new faces into the club during the January transfer window.

BBC Sport on Dec 26 said the tycoon is also seeking to tempt Warnock to extend his contract and stay at the club next season having done "a great job" so far.

"We will spend some money. A reasonable amount, no silly money, those days are gone," Tan was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"The current team is comparable (to the last promotion-winning side). The only one difference is, I think, the previous team we spent over £20 million and this team we spent not so much.

"We believe we will spend wisely and we have a great manager who will spend wisely, who will not buy players that we don't even play or start," Tan added.

Cardiff, which lost 4-2 at home against Fulham on Boxing Day, is currently third in the Championship standing — partly thanks to Warnock, who steered Cardiff upwards from the relegation zone since taking over as Cardiff City manager from Malky Mackay in October 2016.

"We are all very happy. Speaking on behalf of many people who love this club we are very happy. Neil Warnock has done a great job," said Tan, who also confirmed the club was in talks with 69-year-old Warnock about staying next season, after his contract ends by the middle of 2018.

Tan said the talks were going well. "We are talking and I believe, I hope, we can reach a positive conclusion to the talks. So far it's being going well and been positive," he said.
