KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 19): Versatile Creative Bhd said its appointment as the main contractor to build a halal vaccine plant, pharmaceutical plant and research centre in Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan, has been terminated.

The loss-making print and packaging solutions provider said its termination in the project costing US$69.3 million (RM308.49 million) was made by Oriental Mace Sdn Bhd.

This is due to Versatile Creative not officially accepting the offer and having not embarked on the project, the company said in a filing today, adding that Oriental Mace could not grant further extension of time to complete the feasibility study.

Versatile Creative had previously announced that it had on Oct 27 last year accepted the offer, which is subject to two more conditions to be fulfilled.

Oriental Mace is part of The Oriental Mace Group, which is led by chief executive officer (CEO) Professor Dr Wong Kong Yew, formerly the CEO of Stone Master Corp Bhd, a company that is mainly involved in the manufacturing and trading of marble and granite, ceramic tiles, and sanitary wares.

Oriental Mace and Versatile Creative are related by a common director, Datuk Wong Kong Choong.

Versatile Creative shares closed at RM1.37 today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM160.75 million.
