CONSTANTLY shop at Uniqlo and addicted to its sensible, comfortable and innovative clothing? Rejoice then, as the Japanese retailer has just debuted its first Uniqlo U collection in Malaysia, which is part of its autumn/winter 2016 range. The collection marks Christophe Lemaire’s debut as artistic director for Uniqlo’s Paris research and development (R&D) centre. He had previously designed the autumnl/winter 2015 and spring/summer 2016 collections for the Uniqlo and Lemaire line.

Led by Lemaire, the team at the Paris R&D centre is dedicated to reinventing everyday basics. Designed to transcend trends, every item of clothing from the Uniqlo U line has been carefully and thoughtfully tested to its meet its highest potential. Simplicity here has been carefully reinvented to affordable luxury for everyone.

With this range, Lemaire and his team have dedicated themselves to investing in design, fabric selection and stitching in order to improve the overall comfort and individuality of the clothes. Prior to this, Lemaire had previously worked as artistic director for fashion brands such as Hermès and Lacoste.

Consisting of “elevated” basics that represent Uniqlo’s LifeWear philosophy, the collection features high-quality clothing that pays close attention to design and comfort for everyone. For the latest collection, the Uniqlo U range will feature 52 women’s items and 35 men’s items with some of the items available immediately and the rest later this November. The collection features outerwear, dresses, jackets and knits suitable for colder climates. The palette for this season is a combination of brown, maroon, grey and cream shades.

In keeping with the LifeWear concept, the collection is designed to match every mood. U represents the powerful phonetic association with the brand itself and serves as a constant reminder of the brand’s DNA. The collection is now available at Uniqlo stores in Fahrenheit88, One Utama, Mid Valley Megamall and Queensbay Mall and at Uniqlo’s online store.
